How Michigan Drivers Can Avoid License Points on Their Record

Middle-aged Michigan sitting in a white car, holding a traffic citation letter.Getting a traffic ticket in Michigan doesn’t always mean points on your license or higher insurance premiums. Thanks to Michigan’s Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDIC), eligible drivers can prevent points from being added to their record by completing an online course. Even better? Insurance companies won’t see the violation either.

🚦 What Is the Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDIC)?

The BDIC is a state-approved program that allows Michigan drivers to keep a minor traffic ticket off their official driving record. Once you receive a notice from the Secretary of State, you have 60 days to complete the course. It’s available online or in person and includes lessons, quizzes, and a final exam.

✅ How It Helps You

  • No points added to your license
  • Insurance companies won’t be notified
  • One-time use available only once per lifetime
  • Completion prevents long-term financial consequences
